Do Your Clothes Reflect Who You Are?

reflection, fashion, style, vacation, mirror, colorful wall, black and white

I was 24 when I could finally look in the mirror and be happy with what I saw.

It was the end of July 2020 – ya know, a few months after Ms. Rona decided to make her unwanted debut. *intensified eyeroll*

During the two weeks that German borders were open, I decided to take a two-week vacation to Portugal and Spain (I booked that flight SO QUICK, y'all don't UNDASTANDDD). The peak of the Black Lives Matter Movement, being kicked out of my last apartment by a sad excuse for a roommate (don't even GET me started), my grandpa’s death, and being isolated for so long in an unhealthy atmosphere (like that hoe needed an eternal amount of lysol and holy water) – SIS NEEDED A BREAK!

So there I go, risking it all to go on a well-deserved vacation away from the chaos.

I don’t regret a single thing (PERIODT). The views, the food, the culture, the people and memories - made it all worth it. And it was here that I decided that I would pursue what I always wanted to do: become a stylist.

But not just any stylist.

A stylist who elevates her people and builds a positive community. Who listens because she cares and knows that there is more to life than clothes. Who values diversity and dreams of bringing people of different cultures, backgrounds, races, religions, and genders together because they’re tired of being “the only one” and feeling alone. Who actually understands and doesn’t try to pretend she knows how you feel (yes ma'am i'm throwing alllll the shade. The ENTIRE FOREST) because she’s actually been through it as well.

A stylist who shows you that the clothes you wear reflect how you view yourself. They reflect who you are.

As I stood there in my hostel looking in the bathroom mirror near Madrid’s Puerta del Sol, I could finally say that I knew my purpose in life. That I loved what I saw in the mirror. That I would elevate my style to reflect that.

I could finally hype myself up and say “YOU ARE FREAKING GORGEOUS, QUEEN” and mean it.

Can you say the exact same thing, and mean it? Can you look in the mirror and say that you’re happy with what you see? Can you look in your closet and confidently say that your wardrobe genuinely reflects who you are and who you want to be?

If you can’t honestly say yes to all of these questions, I understand. I was the same way. Society is trash and can distort your view of yourself. Because of your distorted view and fear, you dress completely opposite of who you actually are.

You’re scared of losing those closest to you because you know you want to change, but you’re afraid that everyone else won’t like it.

I get it. But often times you need to follow that fear because it’s what’s best for you. You need to put yourself first and stop worrying about what others will think of you. Change is scary. But it’s needed in order for you to grow into the person you’re meant to be.

So what's the next step? How can you come to the point where you can finally say "I love what I see and I love what's in my closet."?

Invest in yourself.

Maybe it looks like investing your time figuring out your style personality (or personaliTIEEEES like my man from the movie Split). Or doing a closet cleanout (because your closet has been SCREAMING for attention). Maybe it's branching out and trying on things that you wouldn't have even thought of wearing (do you think fashion icons get where they are by staying in an unbreathable, dirty, booty-smelling, disrespectful box? NO MA'AM!).

Maybe it looks like joining my list so that I can walk by your side and help you get on that level you're meant to (because who wouldn't want that??).

So join my list and let’s go on this journey of finding yourself and your style together (LEHHGOOO)! Let’s build that confidence that I know you have in you and let’s show the world who you really are. Life is wayyyy too short.
